Melba Lou Tindle

Melba Lou Tindle, 75, a resident of Longton, Kansas, formerly of Fredonia, Kansas, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. She was born November 3, 1933 in rural Gridley, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd and Lydia (Ehrhardt) Edwards. She was graduated from Garnett High School in 1951. Melba was a homemaker and served as the Board of Education clerk for USD 283-Longton, for ten years, retiring in 1991. In October of 1955, she married Gene Johnson. He preceded her in death in March of 1959. On April 10, 1960 in Fredonia, she married Joe Tindle. He survives at their home. Melba was a member of the Community Christian Church in Longton. Throughout the years, she was a member of the Fredonia Mother"s Guide, Eastern Star, Kansas Cultural Arts Council, and the Kansas Extension Homemakers, where she had held state offices and organized many bus trips for area members. Survivors, in addition to her husband, Joe, include: Four children: Gena Kimzey and her husband, Kevin of Elk City, KS Seth Johnson and his wife, Rita of Elk City, KS Sean Tindle and his wife, Mary of Luxemberg, IA Licia Nichols and her husband, Joe of Longton, KS Two sisters: Dixie Hammon of Yates Center, KS Margaret Lance and her husband, Lyle of Sedgwick, KS Nine grandchildren: Andrea Kimzey Gadelman, Seth Kepps Johnson III, Joshua Johnson, Joe Kimzey, Caleb Nichols, Lydia Nichols, Tess Tindle, Thomas Tindle and Timothy Tindle Three great grandchildren: Miles Gadelman, Keeli Jo Kimzey and Joshlynn Johnson She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Anita Bagby; and one granddaughter, Tamra Laurette Kimzey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Community Christian Church in Longton with Pastor Dave Sanchez officiating, assisted by Joe Nichols. Burial will be in the Longton Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Wednesday, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Melba"s name with the Community Christian Church Building Fund and may be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence may be left at on this website.
