Mary Lucille Cheever

Mary Lucille Cheever, 92, a longtime resident of Altoona, Kansas died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Neodesha. She was born July 26, 1921 in Canton, Kansas, the daughter of Jerry S. and Mabel Christine (Austin) Brucker. She was a homemaker.

In May of 1959, Mary was united in marriage to James J. Cheever. He preceded her in death.

Mary was a member of the Altoona Christian Church and the Over 50 Center. Her hobbies included crafting, fishing and sewing. She had a deep love for animals.

Son: Dennis Brucker and wife Ann of Galva, KS
Stepchildren: James Cheever of MissouriJeannie Wade of Severy, KS
Sister: Leitha Sewell of Altoona, KS
Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her parents, Jerry and Mabel Brucker; stepson, William Cheever; brothers, Willard Brucker, Russell Brucker, Garland Brucker and Robert Brucker; and sisters, Nona Stephens and Evelyn Grant also preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Altoona Cemetery with Pastor Jim Raymond of the Verdigris Valley Christian Fellowship officiating. A visitation has been scheduled prior to the graveside on Thursday afternoon, 1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M. at Timmons Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in Marys name with AWOL of Independence and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
