Mary Lou Payne, 79, passed away surrounded by her family on August 10, 2012. She was born in Buffalo, Kansas, December 29, 1932 to Bryan Lee and Margaret Mae Canty. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1950. She graduated from Emporia University in Emporia, Kansas in 1954. Mary Lou began her teaching career in Ness City, Kansas. She met Glenn R. Payne in January 1958 in Hayden, Colorado, and married in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 12, 1958. They briefly resided in Chino, California before returning to Buffalo in 1960 to teach school and start a family. After a real estate career in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she opened the Sears Catalog Store in Cleveland, Oklahoma in 1973. She retired and moved back to her birthplace of Buffalo along with her husband Glenn in 1994. She will be remembered as a loving, generous, and encouraging wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed RV'ing from the Carolina's to California, cooking, politics, and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Scott Pringle. Mary Lou is survived by her husband Glenn Payne; sister Ruth Ann Pringle; brother in law, Lauren Pringle; two children, Debra Cope and Reg Payne; 6 grandchildren, Richard Collins, Bryan Collins, Heath Payne, Heather Payne-Baker, Hayden Payne, and Kara Cope; 6 great grandchildren, Wesley Collins, Casey Collins, Riley Collins, Bryn Collins, Brayden Collins, and Cooper Collins; nephew, Mark Pringle. Funeral services will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 under the direction of Serenity Funerals and Crematory. A graveside services will be held Wednesday evening at 6:30 P.M. at the Buffalo Cemetery with Pastor Jim Raymond officiating. Timmons Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
