Mary Douglas, 88, a resident of Thayer, Kansas, died Friday, October 2, 2015 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. She was born May 21, 1927 in Madison Kansas, the daughter of Orren and Nellie (Mattox) Michael. She was united in marriage to Hugh A Douglas Jr. on April 6, 1946 in Fredonia, KS. Hugh preceded her in death January 7, 1990. Mary was a member of the Thayer Christian Church. Alongside her late husband, they were life-long farmers in Wilson County. They also enjoyed traveling, square dancing, rodeos and taking their grandchildren on trips. Mary was also an avid gardener. Her survivors include: Daughter Janet Topham of Fulton, Ill. and her children Julie and Jim. Son Mike Douglas and wife Alice of Fredonia, KS and their children Chris, Devon and Eric. Daughter Sue Solomon of Arizona and her children Jon, Holly, Warren and Bryan. Daughter Karen Cox and her husband Randy of Chanute, KS and their children Pam and Derek. Nineteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren whom she loved dearly also survive her. Her parents, infant son Loren, Sister Hazel Tefft, Brother Bill Michael (Normandy Beach) and Son-in-law Terry Topham preceded her in death. Services will be held Monday October 5, 2015, 10AM at the Thayer Christian Church in Thayer, KS with David Camp officiating. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Timmons Funeral Home, Sunday October 4, 2015 from 3pm-5pm. A memorial has been established in Mary"s name with Thayer Christian Church and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
