Marvin Francis Martin

Marvin Francis Martin, 90, a resident of Vintage Park in Fredonia, Kansas, formerly a 60 year resident of Lafontaine, Kansas, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born November 10, 1920 in Lamont, Missouri, the son of Lewis Cecil and Pearl Mae (Gowin) Martin. Marvin was a retired farmer, working for Double L Ranch, Kim-Mac Farms as well as managing his own farm. Marvin served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart during his service. He was a member of the Lafontaine Christian Church, where he attended for 60 years. On June 14, 1947 in Neodesha, Kansas, Marvin was married to Wilma Irene Mott. They were married for 60 years, until her death on April 4, 2008. Marvin is survived by: Four daughters: Leesa Buchanan of Alta Vista, KS Sharon Buchanan of Neodesha, KS Marvine Alvarez of Elk City, KS Janet Smith of Newton, KS Siblings: Juanita Armstrong of Janesville, WI Lewis Martin, Jr. of Janesville, WI Dayton Martin of Knob Noster, MO Wenonah Angier of Vacaville, CA Eight Grandchildren and Several Great Grandchildren Marvin"s parents; brother, Charles Martin; two infant siblings; and grandson, Scott Jason Buchanan also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Lafontaine Christian Church with Rev. Kenneth Richards officiating. Burial will be at the White Cemetery, near Lafontaine with military rites. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in Marvin"s name with the Lafontaine Christian Church and contributions can be sent to the funeral home.
