Martin Loucks, 95, of Manhattan, KS, formerly of rural Fredonia, KS, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community, Manhattan. He was born December 8, 1913 in Copeland, KS, to Jonas P. and Nettie (Becker) Loucks. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Opal C. Loucks, his parents, sisters Elda of Moundridge, Opal Schowalter of Eldorado, Mabel Delk of Wichita, Dora Landis of Lone Grove, OK, Anna Stucky of Moundridge, Alta Pease of Arkansas City, brother Pete of Emporia, granddaughter, Ronda Wenger, and great grandson, Ezekiel Webber. Mr. Loucks was united in marriage to Opal C. Blosser of rural Hesston, KS in 1935. They started their married life as farmers. Just one year after their marriage they purchased an 80-acre farm seven miles south of Fredonia, KS where they lived for 60 years. After selling the farm, they lived nine-years at Madison Square Retirement Village, Fredonia and then four years at Stoneybrook Retirement Community. Martin worked as a farmer, sheet metal worker at Boeing, carpenter and 15 years as a maintenance man at the Fredonia ADM plant. The farm was his joy and he was never happy far from it. His family will miss him for the stories he loved to tell to all who would listen. Surviving loved ones who will miss him include his two daughters: Dorothy Petty and her two daughters, Rita Petty and Jana Petty all of Topeka and one grandson; Becky Loucks of Eureka and her two sons, Rehan Zaidi and his wife, Jennifer, of Robbinsville, NJ and their two children and Sha Zaidi and his fianc"e, Kendra, of Long Branch, NJ and her one child; his two sons: Jim and his wife Lois and their two daughters, Linda Mae and Deanna Fairbanks and her husband, John, and three children all of Onaga; Bill and his wife Pat of Manhattan and their two daughters, Beth Owen and her husband, Howard, and three children of Gig Harbor, WA and Pamela Loucks and her two children of Lawrence, and son, David Loucks and his wife, Debbie, and their two sons and two grandchildren all of Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Loucks" surviving siblings include: Nora LeCounte of Wichita, Berdie Gouchenour of Wichita, Jake and his wife Deloris Loucks of Wichita, Edna Steele and her husband Bill of Carson City, NV, and brother-in-law Orlin Stucky of Moundridge. Funeral service will be held at the Timmons Funeral Home, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 with Rev. Charlotte Coates of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Koger/Cheatham Cemetery, south of Fredonia. Memorial donations for the First United Methodist Church may be made in care of the funeral home.
