Martha J. "Marty" Wooten

Martha Jean Marty Wooten, 59, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at her home. She was born November 7, 1954 in Buffalo, Kansas, the daughter of Kenneth and Alice (Gulick) Albin. Marty attended school in the Midway and Chanute districts. She graduated from Neosho County Community College with an associate degree. She was the co-founder and board member of SKIL-Parsons, KS.

On July 15, 1987, Marty was united in marriage to David E. Wooten. He survives at their home.

Marty was very active at the local, state and national levels. She was a past member of the Disability Rights Advocate, National Council of Independent Living, Kansas Disability Caucus Committee, Kansas Association of Independent Living, Statewide Independent Living Council, and Fredonia ADA Committee. She was involved with the Fredonia Day Care Center, Stinger Basketball, and Black and Gold Boosters. She was an avid fan of Coffeyville Rockies Baseball and Kansas Jayhawk Basketball. Marty was a Kansas volunteer for the U.S. Department of the Interior-Bureau of Reclamation. She received the first annual Marty Wooten Advocacy Award from SKIL-Parsons, KS. She also received an invitation to the Inauguration of Clinton/Gore in January 1997.

Her parents and two sisters, Linda Kay Freeman and Connie Albin preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the First Assembly of God Church in Fredonia. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Martys name with SKIL-Parsons, KS, and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
