Elinor "Marie" Holcom, 89, a longtime resident of Altoona, Kansas, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha, Kansas. She was born May 24, 1922 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Albin Levi and Ruth (Stolberg) Larson. Marie attended grade school and high school in Lindsborg, and proudly completed her GED some thirty years later in Altoona. On July 29, 1940 in Downs, Kansas, Marie was united in marriage to Dwain Harold Holcom. He preceded her in death July 6, 2001. Marie was a homemaker and co-owned and operated Holcom Auto Salvage in Altoona with her husband for many years. She was active with Nondenomination Church Group in Sycamore, Kansas. She enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and making blankets for family members, and assisting with Altoona Days. She is survived by seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Her parents, Albin and Ruth Larson; husband, Dwain; sons, Robert Holcom and J.D. Holcom; brothers, Willard Larson and Donnie Larson; one infant brother; and great grandson, James David Holcom, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Timmons Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 P.M. at the Elmwood Cemetery in Lindsborg, Kansas. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in Marie"s name with the American Diabetes Association and donations can be sent to Timmons Funeral Home.
