Lyle E. Weaver

June 7, 1923 — March 10, 2022

Lyle E. Weaver, 98, decided his work on earth was done and wanted to join the love of his life, Blossom, and his only son Don, “Butch”, on March 10, 2022.

Lyle Edwin Weaver was born June 7, 1923, in Sedan, Kansas to Lulu (Briggs) and Lester S. Weaver. He graduated from Sedan High School in May 1942. Lyle and his best friend, Al Wickham, were both inducted into the Navy in June of 1943. During World War II, they served on the USS Sperry in the Pacific Theater. Lyle was honorably discharged on December 4, 1945.

After the war ended, Lyle and Al came home and married sisters becoming brothers-in-law. Lyle married Blossom Dye on May 18, 1946. In 1947, they welcomed their first child, Linda Ilene, with Donald Ray (Butch) born in 1949 and Marilyn Kay (Katie) in 1952. Lyle and Blossom celebrated 56 happy years together before Blossom’s death in 2002. After 20 years without her, he was ready to be with her again.

Lyle spent many years working endless hours in road construction on many of the highways we drive on today in Kansas. He was a loyal, hard worker, rarely missing a day of work in his 54 years in road construction. He moved his family of five throughout Kansas where they all made friends wherever they went. He retired while living in Wichita where they enjoyed their neighbors and gardening with their grandkids before moving to Fredonia where family reunions complete with a tent city and golf tournaments were held yearly.

Lyle, known as Grandpa Weaver or “Poppo” to his six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, never failed to fix anything. In fact, his family always said if Grandpa Weaver couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed. He will forever be remembered for having a toothpick in his mouth, salt on top of his can of Old Milwaukee’s Best and numerous Grandpa sayings such as, “Well Whoop-de-do!” and “Do I bore you?” while tickling with his finger, and many others too numerous to print.

Lyle was preceded in death by his wife Blossom; son, Don (Butch) Weaver; brothers, Harold and Ivan and sisters, Florence Merritt (Earl) and Irene.

Lyle is survived by his daughters Linda Kuhn (Bob) Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Katie Bogard (David) Olathe, Kansas, and daughter-in-law Tresa Flora Weaver Waldhauer (Kurt) Manhattan, Kansas and sister Esther Stephenson (Loy) Dodge City, Kansas. Survivors also include grandchildren Lexanne Kuhn Pendergraft, Nickole Kuhn Ranallo (Kevin), Patrick Weaver, Melissa Weaver Ryan (Craig), Carrie Quinlan Broeckelmann (Kurt), Christina Quinlan Brannon (Ryan) and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th St., Fredonia, Kansas, on Saturday March 26, 2022, at 2:30 pm. Burial will follow at Fredonia Cemetery. A Memorial in Lyle’s honor has been established to the Olathe Health Hospice House and may be left or sent to Wickham Family Funeral Home.
