Laura Mae Wing Brown

Laura Mae (Wing) Brown, 82, died Monday, March 14, 2011 after suffering a long-term illness with Alzheimer"s disease. She was born September 9, 1928 to Jerome Paul and Donna (Chamberlain) Wing of Benedict, Kansas. Laura spent her childhood and early adult life on the Wing farm and attended Junior College in Chanute, Kansas after high school graduation. She married Willis M. Brown, a native of rural Montezuma, Kansas on July 4, 1947. She was a resident of Baxter Springs, Kansas from 1955 to 1969, Orange, Texas from 1969 to 1987, and Nacogdoches, Texas from 1987 to 2003. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and had a rewarding career in real estate for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a very determined person who helped provide for her family over the years. She enjoyed and appreciated the fine arts, fellowship with her family and friends and lived a life dedicated to Christ. Laura is survived by two sons and their spouses, Dennis Brown, and wife Sue of Cushing, Texas and Kenneth Brown and wife Karen of Guymon, Oklahoma. Four grandchildren, Erin Koonce, Regina Hinojosa, David Brown, Chad Brown, 8 great-grandchildren. A sister, Wanda Reese, and husband Kent of Waterloo, Iowa also survive her. Laura"s infant brother, David, parents, and husband preceded Laura in death. The family would like to thank Vera Jane (Dahlstrom) Sweeney for her dedication and direction and all of the care providers of the Willow Brook Nacogdoches Center in Rusk, Texas for their services and kindness during her long illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday March 18, 2011 at the High Prairie Methodist Church with Rev. Charlotte Coates officiating. Burial will follow at the High Prairie Cemetery north of Altoona under the direction of Timmons Funeral Home, PO Box 168 Fredonia, Kansas 66736. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer"s Foundation. Words of condolence may be left for the family at on this website.
