Kent Eugene Sissom

Kent Eugene Sissom, 86, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Monday, February 12, 2007, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born April 21, 1920 in rural Fredonia, the son of Kent A. and Katie (Shandrow) Sissom. He was a sergeant in the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was a self-employed farmer, as well as a retired repairman for the Lafarge Corporation in Fredonia, where he worked for many years, retiring in 1977. On July 26, 1949 in Fredonia, he married Goldie Lee Delaney. She survives at their home in Fredonia. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia, the Fredonia American Legion, National Rifle Association and the Boilermaker"s Union. Following his retirement he enjoyed selling his homegrown produce at the Farmer"s Market and quilting. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Goldie, include: Three children: Sheryl Hanslik of Bartlesville, OK Randall Lee Sissom of Ottawa, KS Lori Smith of Ottawa, KS One Sister: Ella Odell of Fredonia, KS One Brother: Keith Sissom of Michigan 3 Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Robert Kent; four brothers, Don, Lester, Kenneth and Leland Sissom; and two sisters, Sylvia Glover and Mary Sissom. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 16, 2007, at Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Brodbeck of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Bachelder Cemetery, south of Fredonia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in his name with the Fredonia Flag Fund and the Avenue of Flags and may be sent to the funeral home.
