KENNETH "KEN" SHELDON MCCLURE Kenneth "Ken" S. McClure, 80, of rural Wilson County, Kansas passed away Friday morning at his home. Kenneth Sheldon McClure was born October 11, 1935 in, Selma, Kansas, the son of Charles Walter McClure and Oleta (Monroe) McClure. He grew up in Wichita and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1953. He later attended Wichita State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1959. Ken enlisted with the United States Army serving in Germany and was later honorably discharged. On April 13, 1968, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was united in marriage to Barbara Mitchell and she survives at the home. Ken worked for Hercules Powder Company in Salt Lake City. Later he worked for Titanium Pigment as an industrial sales representative in Atlanta for many years before moving to Kansas in 1970. While in Kansas, he worked at the Thayer Grain Elevator and for NuWay in Chanute, but his primary occupation was as a rancher. He loved science, tinkering with things by taking them apart and putting them back together. He was also a pilot and owned his own plane at one time. Ken was good at making connections with people and always enjoyed making new relationships and friends. Survivors include his wife Barbara of the home, daughter, Shelley McClure and her husband Scott of Winfield, son, Mitchell McClure and his wife Elizabeth of West Hartford, Connecticut, sister, Lavonne Farrice of Wichita, Kansas, grandchildren, Kai, Ayla, Anika, Kadira, Nikita, Alice and Preston. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Altoona United Methodist Church with Pastor Jimmy Yoo, officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Timmons/Wickham Family Funeral Home of Fredonia. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorial remembrances are suggested to the United Methodist Food Pantry in Altoona, and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
