John Weldon Mcbride

John Weldon McBride, 75, a lifelong resident of Fredonia and New Albany area, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at his home in Fredonia. He was born January 13, 1934 in New Albany, the son of Weldon Lee and Mary (McCray) McBride. John was a graduate of Fredonia High School. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army 1952-1955, during the Korean War. Following his military service, John began working at General Portland Cement Company as a lab technician. He retired after 40 years on March 22, 1996. On December 10, 1953, in Fredonia, he married Norma Cole. She survives at their home. John was a member of Boiler Makers #75 Union and a lifetime Yellowjacket fan. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Norma, include: Five daughters: Marcia Kay Johnson of New Albany, KS Sandra Turner of Lafontaine, KS Dianna Sue Rockers of Arma, KS Teresa Rollings of Fall River, KS Pamela DeWitt of Bartlesville, OK One sister: Lela Tindle of Fredonia, KS Twelve Grandchildren and Nine Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steve McBride; one grandson, Charles Watters; one infant sister; and two brothers, Bill McBride and Bob McBride. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Weakley Cemetery near New Albany, with Rev. Max Dawson officiating. Visitation at Timmons Funeral Home will be Friday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M., with the family receiving friends 6:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in John"s name with the Fredonia High School Athletic Department and may be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence for the family may be left on this website.
