LaVerna "Jane" King, 78, a longtime resident of rural Fredonia, Kansas died Friday, October 10, 2014 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born October 9, 1936 in Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of Alvin F. and Mollie (Treblehorn) Schmidt. Jane was the retired office manager and merchandiser for Archer Daniels Midland Corporation in Fredonia, where she had worked for 32 years. On December 23, 1964, Jane was united in marriage to Aaron King. Aaron survives at their home. Jane was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia, where she served as the assistant financial secretary and was in charge of organizing funeral meals for several years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Women, Fredonia Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and animal lover, especially to her dog, Josie. Jane"s survivors, in addition to her husband, Aaron, include: Children: Randy L. Shelton of Wichita, KS Steven M. and Missy Bane-Shelton of Reading, KS Donna Shelton-Dean of Independence, KS Rodney and Sheri Shelton of Fredonia, KS Patty and Marty Pugh of Wichita, KS Brother: Milford and Lois Schmidt of Clinton, MO Sister: Alma Kenney of San Antonio, TX Grandchildren: Drew Alexander Shelton, Paige Elizabeth Shelton, Amarin Renee Shelton, Mariah Faith Shelton, Lindsey Taylor Dean, and Sara Nicole and Darrin Rasmussen Great Grandchild: Landry Parker Dean Her parents, Alvin and Mollie Schmidt; brothers, Ronnie Schmidt and Raymond Schmidt; sister, Tillie McCroskey and grandson, Cory Pugh preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia with Pastor Carl Ellis officiating. Burial will be in the Weakley Cemetery near New Albany. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at Timmons Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in Jane"s name with the Kansas Humane Society and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
