Helena (Carroll) Dalton

Helena (Carroll) Dalton, 89, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, May 29, 2015 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. She was born September 29, 1925 in Ava, Missouri, the daughter of Edd and Gracie (VanHouden) Carroll. She was a graduate of Fredonia High School. Helena worked as a bank teller at State Bank of Fredonia for 28 years, retiring in 1984. Following her retirement, she worked part-time at State Bank and also as an office assistant at Parkview Village. In January of 1943 in Fredonia, Helena was united in marriage to James J. Dalton. He preceded her in death in 1993. Helena was an active member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia. She had been involved in Business & Professional Women, Women"s Mutual Benefit Club, Coterie Club, VFW Auxiliary, American Cancer Society Wilson County Unit, Fredonia Country Club, Ladies Bowling League in Chanute, Fredonia Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing golf. Helena"s survivors include: Son & daughter-in-law: James Russell "Rusty" & Teresa Dalton of Reno, NV Daughter & son-in-law: Susan & Dick Newberry of Wellington, KS Grandchildren: Scott Michael & Susi Dalton Helena Mae "Holly" & Sam Hinson Great Granddaughter: Sherri Sue Hinson She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Johnnie Carroll, Granville Carroll and Ralph Carroll; and sister, Nellie Soltero. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Timmons Funeral Home with Pastor Claude Shue of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, 5:00-6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established in Helena"s name with the American Cancer Society and Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home.
