George Owen Carr

George Owen Carr, 86, a resident of Fredonia, died Friday, October 28, 2005, at the Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born June 16, 1919 in Fredonia, the son of Columbus J. and Maria E. (Owen) Carr. He was a graduate of Fredonia High School. He enlisted in June of 1942 in the United States Army and was later assigned to the 8th Army Air Force, serving 26 months in England. He was discharged in November 1945. He worked as an offset pressman at both Burke Printing Company and Kansas Bank Note Company until his retirement. On March 18, 1950 at the Presbyterian Church in Fredonia, he married Lucille (Cele) Baldridge. She preceded him in death April 24, 2005. He was a charter member of the Fredonia Jaycees, a former member and past president of both the Metro Club and Fredonia Coin Club, a former member of the Fredonia Arts Club and Fredonia Players. He was a member and past president of both the Fredonia Country Club and Fredonia Lions Club. He was a member of the Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation, VFW Post #3018, and American Legion #8. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church, having served several terms as both deacon and elder. His survivors include: One Sister: Mary Ward of Fredonia, KS 19 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cecil Carr, Frank Carr, Everett Carr and Charles Carr; sisters, Evelyn Walker, Iona Goodwin and Delores Luna. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at the Fredonia City Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name with the Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation and may be sent to the funeral home.
