Obituary for Fred C. Moulton

Fred C. Moulton

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:21.

Fred C. Moulton, 96, of Thayer, KS went home to be with his Lord on Friday, May 10, 2019.

He was born April 22, 1923, on the family farm west of Neodesha, KS, the son of Frederick Curtis Moulton and Lily Simpson Moulton. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1940.

On his 25th birthday, April 22, 1948, Fred married Eva Louise Creamer in Neodesha. They lived in Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma and California before settling in Chanute in 1957. They moved to Thayer in 1972 where they have since resided.

Fred spent many years drilling oil wells and working in the oil production industry. He was also an accomplished welder and operated a small welding business from his home in later years. He became an avid collector of horse-drawn farm implements and other work related antiques. Shortly after moving to Thayer, he raised Quarter Horses, winning several first place trophies at Eureka Downs. Fred had a saying, “Every man, at some time in his life, should have a great dog, a great horse, and a great wife. I’ve been lucky enough to have all three.”

Work gave Fred a zest for life. Until a few months ago, he was busy every day in his welding shop fixing things or on his tractor bush hogging or moving things about. At 90, Fred was giving the Sunday morning messages for a small congregation in Erie and within the last year or two he gave several sermons at the Church of Christ in Parsons. Fred was not a trained preacher, but loved the word of God.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 71 years, Louise; a son, Fred C. Moulton, Jr., San Jose, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Dinah and David Myers, Fredonia; two grandchildren and their spouses, Tiffany (& Layne) Harris, New York , and Chad (& Leyla) Myers, Virginia, along with two great-grandsons, Jackson and Isaac Myers, Virginia. Fred also leaves behind many dearly loved nephews and nieces as well as innumerable friends and acquaintances.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Louise Laverty; and five brothers: Bob, Tom, John, Bill, and George Moulton.

A private burial has taken place in Ross Cemetery, Neodesha, with Wickham Family Funeral Home handling the arrangements. A memorial service may be held at a later date.
