Francis L. Parker

Francis L. Parker, 82, a long time resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, December 15, 2006, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born June 25, 1924 in Iola, Kansas, the son of John W. and Flora (Schuster) Parker. He served in the United States Army 1943-45 where he was stationed in the Philippines and New Guinnea. He was retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation, working as an engineering technician for 43 years in the Iola, Fort Scott, Fredonia, Wichita, Chanute and Independence offices. Following his retirement in 1989, he worked as a supervisor for area bridge projects and also worked as a project supervisor during the building of the new high school and track in Fredonia. On July 31, 1946 at Wesleyan Foundation in Manhattan, Kansas, he married Lorene R. Hays. She preceded him in death April 4, 2001. He was an avid golfer and member of the Fredonia Golf Club, and a charter member of the OFC Club. He also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. His survivors include: One son and daughter-in-law Larry and Darlene Parker of Fredonia, KS One daughter and son-in-law Janet and Lewis Bambick of Fredonia, KS One sister and brother-in-law Betty and Duane Zink of Iola, KS One sister-in-law Shirley Huey of Manhattan, KS Grandchildren Regan and Jason Hesler of Overland Park, KS Ryann Parker of Overland Park, KS Nick Bambick of Cincinnati, OH Eric Bambick of Lawrence, KS Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 18, 2006, at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Rev. Steve Brodbeck of the First Christian Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, 9:00 A.M.-10:00 A.M. A memorial has been established in his name with the Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation and may be sent to the funeral home.
