Frances Louise "Frankie" Waltmire, 84, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Aldersgate Village in Topeka, Kansas. She was born February 16, 1924 in Fredonia, the third of seven children born to Frank and Barbara (Atwell) Palmer. Frankie was a 1942 graduate of Fredonia High School. Following graduation, she worked for many years as a secretary in the insurance business, first for the Settle Insurance Agencies and later with Robbins Insurance Agency. She also worked several years in the Wilson County Treasurer"s Office, where she retired in 1990. On August 31, 1952 in Independence, Kansas, she married Warren Waltmire. He preceded her in death March 27, 1967. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia and the Fredonia Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. Her lifelong hobbies included reading, baking and flower gardening. Frankie is survived by: One daughter and son-in-law: Susan Kay and Norman Formenti of Springfield, MO One son and daughter-in-law: Kent Alan and Mona Waltmire of Topeka, KS Three step-children: Paul Waltmire of Cherryvale, KS Shirley Willis of Ozark, MO Tom Waltmire of Weir, KS Three dearly-loved sisters: Irene Shay, Billie Kidd and Carol Miller, all of Fredonia Three grandchildren: Micah Gipe and his wife Heather of Summerville, SC Aubrey Gipe of Nixa, MO Greyson Waltmire of Topeka, KS Many nieces, nephews and step grandchildren Frankie was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bonnie Palmer and Nell Fenner; and one brother, Clyde Palmer. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. and Saturday, 9:00 A.M.-10:30 A.M. The family suggests memorials with the Fredonia Public Library and the First Christian Church and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be sent to www.timmonsfuneralhome.com.
