Floyd A. Russell

Floyd A. Russell, 80, a lifetime resident of rural Altoona, Kansas, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas. He was born July 30, 1930 in Neodesha, Kansas, the son of Charley E. and Sadie (Carver) Russell. Floyd attended school in Altoona, where he graduated in 1948. On October 17, 1954 at the Altoona United Methodist Church, Floyd married Margaret J. Green. She survives at their home. Floyd spent his lifetime operating the family farm and distributing fertilizer, most recently for Yield Plus Fertilizers, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was a member of the Altoona United Methodist Church and chairman of the board of trustees. Floyd received his 50-year pin from the Masonic Lodge in Benedict in 2009. He was also a board member of the Altoona Jamboree and past member of the Altoona Midway School Board and the Eastern Star. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Margaret, include: Five children: Debra Meigs of Altoona, KS Linda & Roosevelt Rogers of Parker, CO Patricia Russell of Chanute, KS Michael & Kim Russell of Altoona, KS Kathy & Larry Klauman of Chanute, KS Two brothers: Harold Russell of Wichita, KS Dale Russell of Neodesha, KS Eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great grandchildren on the way. Floyd"s parents; three sisters, Laverna Hyde, Dorothy Deshasier, and Edith Russell; and son, Mark Alan Russell, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Altoona United Methodist Church with Pastor Jose Miranda officiating. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia. Memorials have been established in Floyd"s name with the Altoona Methodist Food Pantry and the American Heart Association. Contributions may be sent to the funeral home.
