Eugene Walter "Gene" Allen, 71, a resident of Fredonia, died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born June 10, 1934 in Lamar, Missouri, the son of Walter Glen and Beulah (Saxton) Allen. He founded the Wichita Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Center and later worked for USD 484 as a bus driver and playground supervisor. In 1953, he was married to Faith Bugbee and they were later divorced. He served on the Fredonia Arts Council Board and also as a curator; the Gold Dust Hotel Board; the Chamber of Commerce Homecoming Committee and performed with the Gold Dust Players. His survivors include: Three Sons: Jim Allen of Weaubleau, MO; Dave Allen of Summerville, SC;Greg Allen of Lancaster, CA Two Daughters: Stephanie Starkey of Benedict, KS; Kim Martin of Wichita, KS Three Sisters: Lavona Keltner of Belton, MO; Madonna Marshall of El Cajon, CA; Bonnie Barr of Spring Valley, CA 9 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by one son, "Len" Allen; one brother, Glen Allen; one sister, Helen Ross. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 14, 2005, at the Timmons Funeral Home Chapel. Family burial will take place in the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas. A memorial has been established in his name with the American Diabetes Association and may be sent to the funeral home.
