Elwin Wayne Hoff

Elwin Wayne Hoff, 83, of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020. Elwin was born March 29, 1936 in Mullinville, Kansas to Raymond and Goldie (Doyle) Hoff.

He attended school at Mullinville High School, graduating in 1954. He played high school basketball where he scored 39 points in one game and also played against Coach Eddie Sutton. He attended Community College at Hutchinson, Kansas and served in the United States Navy.

Elwin was united in marriage to Betty Hasty on December 27, 1958 in Dodge City, Kansas. She resides at the homestead in rural Fredonia.

Elwin worked as a foreman at ADM until his retirement in 1996. He served on the rural water board, District #7, for many years as president and member. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and watching sports, especially the Chiefs with his grandsons. Elwin loved spending time with his grandkids, caring for people and going to church. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Neodesha, Kansas, where he served as the song leader for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Farm Bureau, Radiant Electric Co-op and Fredonia Co-op.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Jennifer (husband Raymond) Benshoof of Layton, Utah; Dixie (husband Dallas) Denton of Harker Heights, Texas; Janice(husband John) Reese of Neodesha, Kansas and sisters, Betty Smith of Dallas, Texas; and Ruth (husband Howard) Hamm of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Velma Jean Giles, Zella Lamkin, Violet Bosley; and grandson, Dillon Denton.

Celebration of Life services will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas 66736. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00pm until service time. Interment will follow the service at Fredonia City Cemetery.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to In Search of the Lord’s Way or the Wilson Medical Center Foundation. They may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
