Elizabeth B. Armstrong

Elizabeth B. Armstrong, 89, a lifelong resident of the Wilson County, Kansas area, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Vintage Park in Fredonia, Kansas. She was born August 4, 1925 in Neodesha, Kansas to Benjamin F. and Rena B. (Liess) Ecord. She grew up in Neodesha and the family later moved to Chanute, Kansas. She graduated from Chanute High School where she was a drummer with their drum and bugle corps. Following high school, Elizabeth attended college at Baker University where she received her bachelor"s degree in home economics, with a minor in business administration. In 1950, she married C.J. Jordan. The couple lived north of Fredonia where they farmed and ranched for many years. They were blessed with four children during these years on the farm. Liz enjoyed the camaraderie of the other farm wives in the area and the "coffee club" they shared. Through her children, she was involved in the Homebuilder"s 4-H club and all the fair activities that went with it. She was an accomplished seamstress and blessed her family and friends with many Easter and Christmas outfits. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. In 1964, she went to work at the First National Bank in Fredonia, where she worked 27 years until her retirement. Following C.J."s death, the family moved to town. In 1968, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Joe Armstrong. They were married 30 years, until his death in 1998. Following her retirement, Elizabeth stayed active in the First United Methodist Church, volunteering in the office and coordinating funeral dinners. She was also a member of the Fredonia Regional Hospital Auxiliary and assisted the Meals-On-Wheels program as a volunteer driver. Elizabeth"s survivors include: Her children: Linda (Roger) Hitt of Omaha, NE Libby (Robert) Crumb-Sweeney of Blair, NE Jim (Lisa) Jordan of Pittsburg, KS John (Wendy) Jordan of Fall River, KS Stepdaughters: Anita (Stan) Graber of Pretty Prairie, KS Nancy (Doug) Hime of Portsmouth, RI 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren Her parents, her brother, Benjamin F. Ecord II, and one son-in-law, Jim Crumb, also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Timmons Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in Liz"s name with the Fredonia Educational Foundation and donations may be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home.
