Dulcie Mae Parker

Dulcie Mae Parker, 88, a longtime resident of Fredonia, formerly of Wichita, died Friday, June 3, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Fredonia. She was born April 25, 1923 in Hallowell, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Letha (McKee) Glidewell. Dulcie was a 1940 graduate of Columbus High School. On August 27, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas, Dulcie married Charles Parker. He survives at their home. Dulcie taught in a one-room schoolhouse for two years. During World War II, she was a supervisor in the keypunch department at Boeing in Wichita. Charles and Dulcie moved to Fredonia in 1950. After her children were in school, she worked in the office at General Portland Cement Company for a few years and then was employed for more than 15 years as the internal auditor and assistant vice president at the First National Bank in Fredonia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the church choir. She was a Brownie Scout leader, Cub Scout Den mother, and Methodist Youth Fellowship sponsor for several years. Dulcie received Golden Girl status for her 50 plus years as a member of Chapter N, P.E.O. More recently, she worked with children through the tutoring program and the Sprouts after-school program at the First United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, Charles, Dulcie is survived by: One daughter: Charis (Roger) Geisinger of Bella Vista, Arkansas One son: Craig Parker of Fredonia, Kansas One brother: Loran Glidewell of Clearwater, Kansas Four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her parents; two sisters, Carmen Woffard and Thelma Snyder; two brothers, Carl Glidewell and Glen Eldon Glidewell; and one grandson, Matthew Parker, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Charlotte Coates officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Dulcie"s name with the First United Methodist Church Sprigs and Sprouts and donations can be sent to Timmons Funeral Home.
