Dorothy Jean Decker, 84, a resident of Chanute, Kansas, formerly of Buffalo, Kansas, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. She was born May 20, 1923 in Bixby, Oklahoma, the daughter of Homer and Audie Elizabeth (Hershey) May. She was a graduate of Buffalo High School. On November 30, 1943 in Neodesha, Kansas, she married Max Decker. He preceded her in death June 3, 2002. Dorothy was a homemaker and also worked part-time as a telephone operator in Buffalo and an Avon lady. She was also a gifted seamstress She was a longtime member of the Buffalo Nazarene Church and a member of the Buffalo VFW Auxiliary. In 2002, at the Buffalo Homecoming, Dorothy was recognized for Outstanding Citizenship and Lifelong Community Service. Dorothy"s survivors include: One daughter: Karen Williams of Chanute, KS One son: Raymond Decker of Albuquerque, NM One sister: Norma High of Lawrence, KS Five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday, March 18, 2007 at the Buffalo Nazarene Church with Rev. Jerry Poe officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo Cemetery. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Monday, 3:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in her name with the Buffalo Nazarene Church and may be sent to the funeral home.
