Dale M Trimmell

January 21, 1918 — June 23, 2008

Dale M. Trimmell, 90, a long time resident of the Coyville, Kansas area, died Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Cherryvale Nursing and Rehab Center in Cherryvale, Kansas. He was born January 21, 1918 in rural Greenwood County, one of twelve children born to Milton and Stella (Knox) Trimmell. Dale attended Ross Branch Grade School and graduated from Fall River High School in 1937. He served in the United States Navy 1943-1945, serving on the Navy supply ship, USS Adhara, achieving the rank of Coxswain (Third Class Petty Officer). On November 27, 1946 in Benedict, Kansas, Dale married Jessie Steele. She preceded him in death January 14, 2003. Dale was a retired rancher. He had also worked for the El Dorado Livestock Sale Company for more than 20 years as a livestock field representative and was a Nutrena Feed salesman. In addition, he helped to build the Toronto, Elk City and Burlington reservoirs and several family homes. Dale refereed many basketball games throughout the years and was an avid worker at the Wilson County Rodeo. He was a member of the Coyville Christian Church, American Legion and the Toronto Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included riding a good trained horse, frequenting the local coffee shops and storytelling. Dale"s survivors include: One son: Eddie Trimmell of Coyville, Kansas Four daughters: Carolyn Reaves of Friendswood, Texas Marilyn Kidd of Fredonia, Kansas Beverly Moorhead of Fredonia, Kansas Roberta Dickey of Wichita, Kansas One brother: Bill Trimmell of Neodesha, Kansas Three sisters: Ruby Bunce of Fredonia, Kansas Verna Lea Shafer of Fredonia, Kansas Marjorie Stone of Derby, Kansas Nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Luther and Victor; sisters, Lucille, Bonnie and Joyce; and an infant brother and infant sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Timmons Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Benefiel of the Buxton Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Coyville Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M., where the family will receive friends 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in his name with the Fredonia Avenue of Flags and can be sent to the funeral home. Online condolences may be left on this website.
