Charles W. Rettmann

Charles W. Rettmann, 90, a lifelong resident of the family farm and home near Altoona, Kansas, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born November 16, 1916, the only son of Oscar and Zetta (Wilson) Rettmann. The farm was central to his life and he was proud to be called a farmer. On February 24, 1951 in Fredonia, Kansas, he married Mary Jarred. She survives at their home. Charles" life became more complete in January of 1953, with the birth of their son, Glenn and again in November of 1954 with the birth of their daughter, Teresa. As children, Glenn and Teresa spent many hours in the field with their father. At a very young age, they learned to assist on the farm. Work was just another reason to get up of a morning! Charles adored being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a member of the Harmony School Board and the National Farmers Organization. He enjoyed family outings to Toronto Lake and visits with aunts, uncles, family and neighbors. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Mary, include: One son and daughter-in-law: Glenn & Marlene Rettmann of Chanute, KS One daughter and son-in-law: Teresa & Wes Crawford of The Woodlands, TX 5 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Cloice Rettmann Siebert, who died in 1975. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Raymond of the Verdigris Valley Christian Fellowship of Altoona officiating. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in his name with the Altoona Cemetery Association and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be sent to www.timmonsfuneralhome.com.
