Charles "Red" William Lewis

Charles William "Red" Lewis, 93, a longtime resident of Wilson County, Kansas, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Heritage Health Center in Chanute, Kansas. He was born August 16, 1921 in Renfro, Oklahoma, the son of Francis U. and Iva P. (Cooperrider) Lewis. Charlie was a 1941 graduate of Benedict High School. He owned and operated a farm for many years, retiring in 2010. On March 17, 1947 in Wellington, Kansas, Charlie was united in marriage to Virginia Mae Lewellen. She preceded him in death May 21, 2013. Charlie was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge #403 AF&AM in Benedict, Order of the Eastern Star and the Old Iron Club. His hobbies included woodworking, collecting toy tractors and playing cards. His survivors include: One son and daughter-in-law: Ronald and Janice Lewis of Lincoln, NE One sister: Merle Baker of Benedict, KS One grandson and his wife: Jason and Brenda Lewis of Clayton, CA Two great granddaughters: Evelyn and Jenna Lewis of Clayton, CA He was also preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Irene, Mae and Vietta. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 3, 2014 at Timmons Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in Charlie"s name with the Old Iron Club and donations can be sent to or left at Timmons Funeral Home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
