CHARLES BRADLEY ALLENCharles "Charlie" B. Allen, 80, of Liberty, Kansas passed away early Wednesday morning at his home with his family by his side.Charles Bradley Allen was born September 2, 1933 in rural Cherryvale, Kansas the son of Carl Kelso Allen and Minnie Beatrice Reardon. He graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1951 and was the class Valedictorian. He later attended Independence Community College in Independence.On June 6, 1953 in Erie, Kansas he was united in marriage to Etta JoAnn Huss and she preceded him in death November 13, 2010.Charlie was a member of the Eagles Club in Cherryvale and also the Elks Lodge where he held many state and local officer positions and was Past Exalted Ruler (PER). He loved fishing, woodworking and carpentry. He built the house he lived in for the past 61 years in Liberty, Kansas. People who knew him will remember him for his honesty and willingness to help others.He was a Boy Scout Leader, instrumental in the middle 1960"s in the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, active with youth groups and was Liberty City Treasurer for over 20 years.Charlie worked for the CRA Refinery in Coffeyville and when he retired in 1991 was the Fire Chief Safety Coordinator.Survivors include two sons, Loren Bradley Allen of Liberty, Kansas, Stacy Dale Allen of Shiloh, Tennessee, three brothers, Don Allen of Montrose, Colorado, Dick Allen of Moline, Kansas, Stanley Allen of Polson, Montana, six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Evelyn McDowell, Lillian McDowell, three brothers, Kenley Allen, Dean Allen and Darrell Allen.Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 9, 2014 at Liberty Cemetery with Father Andrew Heiman, celebrant. Friends may sign the register book from 12 Noon until 8 P.M. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. at Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas. A luncheon will be served following the graveside service at the Liberty Methodist Church.Memorial remembrances are suggested to Gentiva Hospice or American Alzheimers Association and they may be left or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home.
