Ambrosio P. Mendiola, MD, 71, died Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was born September 20, 1939 in the Philippines, the son of Benjamin and Lucia (Paras) Mendiola. He earned his degree in Medicine from the University of the East in Manila and practiced briefly in the Philippines before coming to the states. He practiced in Chicago for six years, then moved to Kansas, bringing his gifts all over the state, before he came to Fredonia, where he was in private practice for the past 15 years. He served dutifully in the United States Army and received a commendation medal for Desert Storm in 1991. He was a member of the Fredonia Lions Club and the Benedict Masonic Lodge #403. On September 27, 1989, in Leavenworth, he married Robyn Karls and she survives at the home. In addition to his wife Robyn, he is survived, remembered, and loved by his children Mike Mendiola (Chicago, IL), Jason and Michelle McKinnie (Chicago, IL), Marlene Mendiola (Chicago, IL), Nick and Stephanie Anderson (Lawrence, KS), and his grandchildren Bryan Anderson (Lawrence, KS), Jayla Mia McKinnie (Chicago, IL), and Cole Anderson (Lawrence, KS) whose arrival will help to ease our loss. A rosary will be recited Monday, September 12, 2011, at 10:00 AM and the funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. both at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fredonia wih Father Stephen Thapwa officiating. Burial will be Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and American Diabetes Association and can be sent to the funeral home.
