Adam John Stock

Adam John Stock, 94, a lifelong resident of the Coyville and Toronto, Kansas area, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Specialty Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born September 22, 1915, east of Toronto, the son of Adam and Mary (Liebau) Stock. Adam was a graduate of Toronto High School. Adam served his country from 1942 to 1945 as a sergeant in the United States Army Infantry. He spent his entire adult life farming and doing mechanical work. On December 28, 1941 in Iola, Kansas, he married Doris McVey. She survives at their home in Coyville. Adam was a member of the Toronto Methodist Church; a 50 year member of both the Toronto Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star; and the American Legion in Toronto. Several years he served as mayor of Coyville. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Doris, include: One son: Gary Stock of Toronto, Kansas One daughter: Connie Schmidt of Erie, Kansas One sister: Lynna Powers of Yates Center, Kansas Four Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, and six siblings, Minnie, Elizabeth, Millie, Doris, Elsie and Fred. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 27, 2009 at Timmons Chapel with Carl Thornton officiating. Burial will be in the Big Sandy Cemetery, near Lake Fagan. Memorials have been established in Adam"s name with the Coyville Community Center and the Toronto United Methodist Church and may be sent to the funeral home.
