Obituary for Mildred N. Holcom

Mildred N. Holcom, 82, of Neodesha, Kansas formerly of Altoona, Kansas passed away early Monday morning, March 12, 2018 at Neodesha Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neodesha.

Mildred Nadine Holcom was born November 22, 1935 in Altoona, Kansas the daughter of Charles Smith and Hazel (Thayer) Smith. She attended school in Altoona and graduated from Altoona High School in 1953.

She worked as a seamstress for Stevie Toggs in Neodesha, Kansas.

Mildred enjoyed doing embroidery work and putting puzzles together. She adored cats and liked to watch hummingbirds. She also loved to watch the Kansas City Royals and Kansas Jayhawk Basketball team.

She will be remembered as a loving mother who raised her three children by herself. When her children were younger she sewed clothing for them.

Mildred was a member of the Altoona Christian Church.

Survivors include her children, Jeff Holcom and Connie Angleton of Erie, Kansas. Teresa Holcom of Altoona, Kansas. Kristy and Jay Barnhart of Erie, Kansas. Grandchildren: Tasia and Lucas Markowitz, Tara and Josh Thompson, Brent and Tessa Barnhart. 8 great grandchildren and her Neodesha Care and Rehab family over the last 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Shane Barnhart, brother, Verne Smith, sister, Shirley Steeves, half-sisters, Cleone Sharp, Wilma Haring and Katherine Elliott.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 2:30 P.M., Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Interment will follow services in the Altoona Cemetery.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Altoona Cemetery Fund and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.

The family asks that casual attire be worn while attending the service.
