Katherine Lucille (Chisham) Campbell
September 25, 1937 – September 11, 2017

Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Fulbright Chisham and Dale Lewis Chisham of Neodesha, KS; her sister, Joyce Norris of Neodesha, KS; her husband, Bobby Dean Campbell of Tahlequah (married September 27, 1958); their daughter, Augretta Naomi Campbell; and one grandson, Jeremiah Campbell.

She is survived by three sisters: Marie Gorton of Liberty, MO; Becky Lenard of Omaha, AR; Deah Blevins and husband Mike Blevins of Neodesha, KS; one brother: Bill Chisham and wife Margaret Chisham of Saratoga Springs, NY; three sons: Danny Campbell and wife Theresa Campbell of Chautauqua, KS; Billy Campbell of Winfield, KS; Tom Campbell and wife Susan Campbell of Winfield, KS; one daughter: Janice Sorrell and husband Jeff Sorrell of Collinsville, OK; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.

Lucille graduated from Independence Community College as a member of Phi Theta Kappa in 1957 and Southwestern College (with honors; Order of the Mound) in 1970. She also attended graduate school at Wichita State University, while also attending classes at Pittsburg State College, Emporia State College, and University of Kansas.
Lucille began her teaching career at Dunn Rural School near Neodesha, KS in 1957. She also taught elementary school in Arkansas City, KS and elementary gifted classes for the Winfield Educational Cooperative. She left teaching in 1988 in order to focus on her growing family and grandchildren.

Groups that Lucille was an active member of include: Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, Order of the Honorable Artillery, National Society of New England Women, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Colonial Daughters of Colonial and Antebellum Bench and Bar, National Society Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Colonial Daughters of the XVII Century, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge, MENSA, Independence Monday Music Club, Township roles (committee woman and treasurer), and National Society Daughters of 1812.

Along with her other accomplishments, Lucille enjoyed genealogy, music and writing. She published many articles, three children’s books, wrote many poems and was named Poet Laureate in a MENSA activity. Her third and most recent book, Irish of Mulberry Hill, is in its final stages of publishing at this time.

Services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Fredonia, KS. There will be a viewing at 12:30 on Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at the funeral home. Following the services, she will be laid to rest at Ross Cemetery in Neodesha, KS.
