Billy D. Decker

Billy D. Decker “Pops” formerly of Derby, Ks. passed away Saturday December 2, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Billy was born To Jack and Freda (Romine) Decker and raised in Wichita, Ks. He went to school in Wichita, Ks. and married Clara Belle Colburn right after high school. To this union five children were born. They later divorced. On September 2, 1978 he married Joyce (Tyler) Housel, she survives at the home.

Bill served in the Army National Guard and worked as an over the road truck driver and later truck dispatcher for Clearwater Trucking, Inc. in Wichita, Ks. They made their home in rural Derby, Ks. eventually moving to Cherryvale, Ks due to his wife’s health. He was the caregiver to his wife, Joyce, for many years.

He leaves his wife, Joyce Tyler Decker, of thirty nine years of the home and daughters, Connie Johnson and husband, Daryl of Wichita Ks.; Regina Johnson and husband, Dave of Wichita, Ks.; Janice Little and husband, Scotty of Derby, Ks.; Tonja Wolford and husband, Keith of Cherryvale, Ks; and sons, Wade Decker of Derby Ks.; Tony Housel and wife, Tamie of Derby Ks.; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; sister Mary Holland and husband Neal of Wichita, Ks; brother Richard Decker and wife, Kathleen of Tucson, Az.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Bob, Melba, Les, Jerry, Kenny and Glenda and one daughter, Kendra Thornton.

“Pops” philosophy was to always do what you say you’re going to do and to be on time. His greatest wish was for all of his kids to be happy. He was an extremely dedicated family man. His greatest accomplishment was the dedication, care and undying love of his wife and family.

Services will be held at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 E. 4th St, Cherryvale, Ks on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 am. Graveside services in Wichita, Ks. pending.
