Obituary for A. Irma McCormick

A. Irma McCormick, 100, of Independence, Kansas passed away Sunday evening, April 2, 2017 at Eagle Estates with her family by her side.
Irma was born January 4, 1917 in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Henry Nance and Nettie (Carpenter) Nance. She grew up in Independence and graduated from Independence High School in 1935.
On November 18, 1935 in Joplin, Missouri she was united in marriage to Jack McCormick and he preceded her in death October 15, 1997. The couple lived east of town on the family farm for 52 years until they moved to town in 1994.
Irma worked at Electra, JC Penney in Independence as a store clerk, helped out on the farm and was a homemaker. She also did bookkeeping for the family business, Jack McCormick Body Shop.
She loved to go fishing, play pinochle, spinner dominoes, and cards. In her earlier years she enjoyed gardening, quilting and embroidery. She was a member of Drum Creek Sewing Circle.
Irma attended every 50th high school reunion for herself and for all her children. She will be known for her excellent memory and love for her family and friends.
Survivors include children, Jack E. McCormick and his wife Deborah of Port Charlotte, Florida, Jerry W. McCormick and his wife Barbara Sue of Canadian, Oklahoma, Peggy L. Helmkamp of Independence, Kansas, Robert J. McCormick and his wife Mary Ellen of Bedford, Texas, family friend, Peg McCormick of Elk City, Kansas, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Wilma Nance Orr.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 7, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Independence.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Zion Lutheran Church.
Friends may also sign the register book from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., Thursday at Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas.
Interment will immediately follow services in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Zion Lutheran Church and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
